CarMax has awarded its media planning and buying business to Horizon Media, the automotive retailer confirmed.
The selection came after a review in which OMD and Vizeum were the other finalists, sources said. Media spending approaches $70 million a year, according to Kantar Media. The assignment previously was in house.
"We look forward to working [with Horizon] to connect the CarMax brand with consumers," said Laura Donahue, vp of marketing services for the company.
The media selection comes after the hiring of a new lead creative shop—McKinney—toward the end of last year. Both reviews followed the arrival of CarMax's chief marketing officer, Jim Lyski, in August 2014.
